Dr. Abdulaziz Al Shamekh, Chief Executive Officer of Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City (SBAHC), has been an integral part of Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation’s humanitarian efforts and projects for the development of the Saudi community, since 1997. Dr. Abdulaziz Al Shamekh leads SBAHC, a 400-bed capacity rehabilitation hospital and medical center, to proceed with its mission “To be an Internationally Recognized Center of Excellence in Rehabilitation and Related Healthcare Services”. Patients requiring rehabilitative care with international level of healthcare standards will not need to go out of Saudi Arabia. SBAHC offers the most comprehensive rehabilitation programs and services and is equipped with the latest healthcare technology and staffed with rehabilitation care experts since its operations in 2002. In 2002, Dr. Al Shamekh was appointed as the Director General of Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Medical and Educational Telecommunication Program (Medunet). Medunet provides advanced technology solutions such as telemedicine and distance learning across the Arab communities and is now undertaking the deployment of satellite, fiber-optic cable and digital microwave telecommunications facilities to provide access to even the remotest areas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As an Assistant Director General of Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation from 1997 to 2002, Dr. Al Shamekh was a pioneer thinker of the humanitarian projects of the Foundation. All major projects of the Foundation have come to its realization and are now working towards their vision and goals to provide humanitarian services for the poor and the patients. Before joining Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation, Dr. Al Shamekh was a Deputy Project Director at King Fahd National Guard Hospital and he participated in designing several health and hospital administration training programs for the Institute of Public Administration in the Kingdom. He was a member of the Health Reform Committee as formed by HRH Prince Abdullah (Crown Prince), now King Abdullah. He was also directly involved in the creation of the National Disability Act at Prince Salman Disability Research Center. Dr. Al Shamekh is currently a Board member of the Saudi Alzheimer’s Disease Association and the Saudi Diagnostics Limited. Dr. Abdulaziz Al Shamekh finished his doctorate degree in Health Services Administration at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA on 1992.
